Capture Punch Geo Location - Web

Capture Punch Geo Location - Web is a setting in the application that allows the recording of the geographical location when a punch occurs. When activated, the Capture Punch Geo Location feature monitors the location of each punch. The punch location is accessible through the History tab on the timecard screen. Specifically for mobile usage, there are different settings for capturing punch geo location. Additionally, there is an option to make this configuration either mandatory or optional.

 

1. Click on the gear “” icon on the top right corner of the application. 
2. Click Settings.

3. Click on Geo Location.

4. Select Capture Punch Geo Location. The Capture Punch Geo Location settings allow for capturing the geo location information when performing a punch. Select the option:

• Required will always capture the geo location.
• Optional will give the user punching the option, i.e. the users have the flexibility to either allow or block location access, and they can freely clock in or out without any enforcement.
• Off will never capture the information. It will not ask for location access, and users can clock in or out without needing to grant location permission.

5. Click Save.
6. For example, to verify, consider that you have set the capture punch geo location setting to "Required."

Access the web application. Try to Clock In.

A popup message will appear with the message "Know your location? ". Click Allow or Block.

Note:

• Upon granting permission to add location data to each punch, the address bar of the browser will display the geolocation icon. Conversely, when disabled, it will either hide or show a geolocation icon with a line over it () indicating denied location access. The screenshot below illustrates how Google Chrome displays the geolocation icon and indicates where location access is provided. Depending on your browser, we recommend referring to or searching for steps on how to grant permission to add location data.

• If the location access is blocked, then the "Allow location permission to Clock In/Out" message will appear each time you attempt to use the Clock In/Out button.

After the location access is granted and when you clock in or out, location information becomes accessible. To view the location information, go to the "Timecards > History tab" or "View Timecards > History tab" and click on the View Map link.
